Every piece of jewellery you have ever seen online was photographed close up. That is not a trick anyone is playing on you — it is just how product photography works. But it means the picture cannot tell you how big something is, and the most common thing people say after opening a jewellery parcel is that it is smaller than they expected.
So here are the actual millimetres.
Carat is a weight. It is not a width.
A carat is 0.2 grams. It measures how heavy a stone is, not how much of your ear it covers. Two stones of the same carat weight can look noticeably different depending on how they are cut and how they are set.
There is a second thing worth knowing, because it appears on our spec blocks and it confuses people. Moissanite weighs less than a diamond of the same size, so the trade quotes it as ct DEW — a size reference rather than a diamond claim. When a spec block here says 0.5 ct DEW, it is telling you how big the stone is, nothing more. Our stones are lab-created moissanite, always, and we say so on every page.

The part that surprises people
Look at the last two columns together. Carat weight and the space a pair takes up on your ear do not move in step, because the setting does a lot of the work. A stone in a halo sits inside a ring of smaller stones and reads wider than its own diameter. A stone held in bare claws reads as close to its own size as jewellery gets.
That is why we publish the width as well as the weight. If you are deciding between two pairs, the width is the number that tells you what you will actually see in a mirror.
How to check before you order
Take a ruler, find the millimetre figure from the table, and mark it on the back of your hand. Six millimetres is about the width of a pencil. Twelve is roughly a shirt button. It takes ten seconds and it is a better guide than any photograph, including ours.
Every product page carries the same measurements in its spec block, and the stone diameter is listed separately from the overall width so you can compare like with like.
